When he and his family moved back to the Netherlands in 2014, Tim finished high school in Assen and decided to study Econometrics with a specialization in Quantitative Finance at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Among the many traineeships available for prospective starters, the traineeship at De Heus especially excited him.

SustainabilityStimulating and enabling research
A consortium of companies within the Netherlands Association of the Animal Feed Industry, NEVEDI, and the animal production chain, in collaboration with Wageningen University, has developed a Livestock Research programme: Feed4Foodure. De Heus financially supports this programme. In fact, we fulfil a pioneering role in this. And we not only provide financial support, we also gladly share the use of numerous research facilities on our own research farms. Our objective is to make a substantial contribution to a sustainable and healthy livestock industry in the Netherlands. And together, to reinforce our competitive position on the global market. Feed4Foodure focuses on three areas of research:
-
SustainabilityEffectively reducing consumption
We always remain critical regarding our production and logistics processes. Whenever we spot an opportunity to consistently reduce our energy consumption, we will seize it. This is demonstrated by the following concrete examples (the Netherlands):

SustainabilityMaking optimum use of side streams
Side streams from the food industry can often be fed straight to livestock. Particularly pig farmers are able to benefit from these. Especially where high-energy foods are concerned. These include potato peals from chip production or wheat starch resulting from the production of soft drinks. Other sources include protein-rich yeast from the beer industry and the whey that is drained off after cheese production. These represent excellent feed ingredients with high-quality nutrients. Our pig farming department in the Netherlands is manned by a team of specialists who are happy to support pig farmers regarding the optimum utilisation of side streams.
