TraineeshipArno Willemink – COO Asia
Growing up on a dairy farm, as a child Arno Willemink (32) was naturally already involved in the livestock business. His Industrial Engineering and Management degree at the University of Twente would not lead him directly to the agriculture sector. In 2012, however, he embarked on an internship for De Heus Vietnam, doing market research about the Myanmar market which De Heus was planning to open up. This made him aware of the opportunities for Dutch agricultural companies abroad. After completing his master’s degree in Financial Engineering and Management, he started as Trainee Purchasing & Trading in 2015. Since 2018 Arno has lived in Asia, first as Purchasing Director Asia in Vietnam and since 2022 as COO Asia.

Our peopleRafał Blachowski - senior distribution specialist
Choosing to work at De Heus was not accidental. In 2009, Rafał graduated in commodity science from the Faculty of Animal Bioengineering at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. His first job was working as a sales representative. In 2014, whilst browsing through job advertisements, he came across a vacancy for a distribution specialist at De Heus. Having graduated in agricultural studies, he was familiar with animal nutrition. Furthermore, he had already heard a lot of good things about De Heus. Many of his college colleagues worked at De Heus and praised the conditions and opportunities there. Rafał applied without hesitation and was invited to an interview at the company's headquarters. In 2015, he officially joined the De Heus team.

PigletsInvesting in piglets pays off
Healthy, well-growing piglets are profitable during the rearing period and,in addition, they also achieve good results in the fattening phase. These piglet will be easier to sell and might warrant a higher selling price. This is important, because the piglet selling prices determines the differences in feed profit between sow farms.

SustainabilityHow a De Heus plant can support fish farming in Uganda and help feed the nation
In June 2023, De Heus began construction of its first dedicated aquafeed plant in Uganda. Located in Njeru, near Jinja, on the north shore of Lake Victoria, the factory is expected to start operations early next year. Once the facility reaches full capacity, it will produce some 50,000 tons of fish feed per year, helping to support a rapidly developing aquaculture industry. In addition, it will help to improve the diet and food security of the country's growing population and boost local agriculture.
