How Jaskarn Singh improved milk quality and animal health on his dairy farm

04 Jun 2026

For Jaskarn Singh, dairy farming is a family tradition. At Sukhmani Dairy Farm in Punjab, India, he manages 40 animals, with around 30 in milk at any time, supplying fresh milk directly to consumers nearby. A few years ago, animal health issues and complaints about milk quality began to affect both his confidence and his income. In 2021, he started working with De Heus to improve nutrition and farm management. Since then, the farm has made clear progress, with healthier animals, better milk quality and more satisfied customers.

Sukhmani Dairy Farm is a family-run business where Jaskarn Singh is closely involved in daily work, from feeding the animals to selling milk directly to consumers. Because of this direct connection, milk quality is essential: when quality drops, customer trust is affected immediately.

Facing health issues and falling milk quality

Before working with De Heus, the farm faced recurring mastitis, repeat breeding and inconsistent lactation performance. Medicine and supplement costs were rising, while milk quality became a serious concern. Customers complained about an unpleasant odour, and some stopped buying altogether. Looking for a long-term solution, Jaskarn Singh introduced De Heus nutrition solutions in 2021.

Turning advice into daily farm practice

De Heus provided practical, farm-specific support based on the herd’s needs and available silage. A tailored feeding programme was introduced for calves, young stock, dry cows and lactating animals, combined with regular nutrition guidance, farm audits and technical support. This helped turn feeding plans into consistent daily practice on the farm.

“I am proud that my customers are happy with my milk again, and at the same time my animals are healthy. That gives me real satisfaction and confidence to move forward.”

Achieving healthier animals and better milk

The results became clear over time. Animal health improved, with fewer cases of mastitis and better reproductive performance. Calves and heifers grew stronger, and milk quality improved significantly. The unpleasant odour disappeared, complaints stopped and customer trust returned. Lower use of medicines also helped reduce costs and improve profitability.

Growing with confidence

Today, Jaskarn Singh feels more confident about the future of his farm. With healthier animals, better milk quality and ongoing support, he aims to keep growing in a consistent and sustainable way.
