When Sofia Namuyonga joined De Heus Uganda a year ago, she quickly discovered something she didn’t expect how much impact one person can have on the final product. With a background in Science Technology and Biology, she brought vast technical expertise. However it’s her sharp eye and calm way of working that makes her stand out on the production floor. Her main goal is simple: making sure all products meet the highest quality standards before they reach our customers.

A workday with variety

Sofia’s days rarely look the same. One shift she may be checking the moisture levels of feed; the next she is tracing a quality deviation back to its source. She enjoys this hands‑on, problem‑solving side of her role. “You learn to trust your judgement,” she says. “You feel responsible for what leaves the factory.”

Her favourite moments are when she notices something early — a small inconsistency or a process change — and the team adjusts before quality is affected. “It shows how closely we work together.”

What Sofia values most at De Heus

Sofia didn’t expect the workplace to be as supportive as it is. She talks warmly about the openness in the team and a manager who listens, checks in regularly and encourages people to speak up. “It makes it easier to grow when your voice matters.”

One highlight for her was being part of the team that ensured the first batch of the 2mm feed produced was up to the required global quality standards. "It gave me a deep sense of fulfilment knowing that the work I am doing is important in sustaining East African fish farmers."

"You learn to trust your judgement. You feel responsible for what leaves the factory.”
